As you might recall, I had a birthday about two months ago.  I turned 37.

Chronologically useful, but I think the true sign that I'm getting older was my excitement at finding this place:

In Minami Funabashi, right next to the ocean.  Unfortunately, the massive parking garage is situated in such a way that you can't really see the ocean from the roof.  Curses.

What was it like?  Well, it was identical to the ones in the States (and, presumably, the ones everywhere else.)  The only difference is that you can get sushi at this one.

Saw another show, Boris again (which is becoming a pattern.)  I am getting better at taking the photos, as I was able to get right up there this time.

I even managed to get a photo of the elusive drummer, although it's not exactly great.

Considering my success rate in photographing him, I'll take it.

The other shots came out quite well, if I do say so myself.

The new album is called "Pink," which probably has quite a bit to do with the color scheme of the lighting.

Much as I like seeing Boris, the next band was the semi legendary Guitar Wolf.

Guitar Wolf are famous for being so hyperactive it borders on violence, although it's a kind of friendly violence that isn't going to do much more than spill beer on you and step on your shoes.

Which results in some blurry photos.

The lead singer likes to pull people up onto the stage.  I made it up there as part of a human pyramid, which made photography a bit difficult.  As in, there are no pictures.

He did grab one guy and hand him the guitar.  It didn't really matter, since the guitar is used mostly for, uh, sonic color (it was so spectacularly muddy and out of tune that there was no discernible difference when different "chords" were played.)

"OK, my standards are pretty low for audience members' playing, but..."

"PSST!  Quantum mechanics is a fundamental branch of theoretical physics that supersedes classical mechanics at the atomic and subatomic levels.  Pass it on."

That bit of wisdom passed on, it's time to continue the show, but the stage is getting boring.  Solution?

The show was opened by The Stars, a kind of Japanese psych supergroup with people from Ghost and White Heaven.

They also boast a bass player with a truly impressive haircut.

...which you can't see very well.  Hmm.  Still have some kinks to work out with this photography thing.

In other news, Obon happened, and there was a festival near my house.

I didn't go in, as I felt a bit out of place at a community celebration designed to celebrate departed family members.  Lots of amazing costumes, though...

Then, I'm guessing a few people got blonzed, in a speady way.

I'm guessing this particular business would be very popular at college campuses in the States:

OK, off to have Korean Barbecue again.  As a parting shot, here's Surugi saying "goodbye."
